Cutting the Risk: How Episiotomy Reduces Childbirth Injury
The trial compared lateral episiotomy with no episiotomy during vacuum-assisted deliveries in nulliparous women. Results showed that lateral episiotomy significantly reduced the risk of obstetric anal sphincter injury. There were no notable differences in postpartum pain, neonatal outcomes, or adverse events, though increased wound infections were observed in the episiotomy group.
